Pakora Pass Trek Guide: Hidden Mountain Trail

Introduction

Some journeys are not just to reach the destination, they are to unite you with yourself.

You must have heard about famous treks of northern Pakistan – Fairy Meadows, Deosai, Hunza, K2 base camp etc. But we take you to another best destination – Pakora Pass trek. This is a mountain route that connects Naltar Valley to Ghizer, and yet very few people have seen it.

Pakora Pass is not a fancy or famous place. There are no hotels, no restaurants, no mobile signals here. But this place will introduce you to the real nature – silence, snow, stones, and the real beauty of high mountains.

In this blog I will share my journey with you – how we started from the greenery of Naltar and reached Pakora village, and how was the real, old and beautiful life that we encountered on the way.

Journey from Naltar to Pakora Pass

The journey started from Upper Naltar, where there are trees all around and the sound of rivers. The road from Gilgit to Naltar was narrow and steep, but the views were so beautiful that we could not even feel tired.

We set up camp near Naltar lake and prepared for the next day. The next day we headed towards Lower Shani, where greenery, wildflowers and charted animals welcomed us.

Then we reached Upper Shani, which was the last camp before climbing the pass. From here, patches of snow started appearing on the way and the air also started getting cold.

The most difficult part was climbing over the Pakora Pass, which is at a height of about 4,710 meters. The path was a mixture of rocks and snow, and the wind was thin. But when we reached the pass, the views were so beautiful that everything vanished.

Descending towards Pakora Village

After crossing the pass, we started descending. Slowly the snow started to reduce, the greenery returned, and the forest also started to appear. On the way we also got a chance to chat with the locals, they were very nice people.
