Background history of Altit fort

Altit Fort was earlier the residence of Mir of Hunza until he shifted to Baltit Fort. In the next blog we will tell you about Baltit Fort, it is believed that Altit is the oldest monument of Gilgit-Baltistan. It was once a royal seat and also a mark of defence. Its strategic position on top of the cliff gave a strong view of Isay Valley and Hunza River.

Aga Khan Trust for Culture renovated it and now it has become a living model of an ancient culture – where one can see the essence of Hunza’s customs, traditions, and fun and talent.
