Overview
Rupal Peak (5,642 meters) is a striking Himalayan summit located in Pakistan’s magnificent Rupal Valley, directly beneath the legendary Rupal Face of Nanga Parbat, the highest mountain face in the world. Though often overshadowed by its giant neighbor, Rupal Peak offers one of the most scenic and accessible high-altitude expeditions in the western Himalayas.
The Rupal Peak Expedition starts from the picturesque village of Tarashing in Astore Valley, leading climbers through lush alpine meadows, glacial streams, and dramatic mountain landscapes. The route follows the historic approach to Herligkoffer Base Camp, named after the famous German mountaineer Karl Maria Herrligkoffer, before continuing toward the Rupal Peak Base Camp with uninterrupted views of Nanga Parbat, Mazeno Wall, and surrounding Himalayan giants.
Technically, Rupal Peak is considered a moderate alpine climb, involving snow slopes, glacier travel, and short ice sections. This makes it an excellent choice for trekkers transitioning into mountaineering or climbers seeking a less crowded Himalayan summit. The expedition typically lasts 10–14 days, allowing proper acclimatization and a safe summit attempt.
Beyond the climb itself, the expedition offers an immersive experience into remote mountain culture, pristine wilderness, and one of Pakistan’s most breathtaking trekking regions. With dramatic scenery, manageable technical difficulty, and proximity to Nanga Parbat, the Rupal Peak Expedition is a perfect blend of adventure, challenge, and natural beauty.
