Baskochi Trek Hunza – 3 km to a Hidden Alpine Gem

Before exploring Baskochi, I thought Hunza only had Attabad Lake, Passu Cones, Altit Fort, and Baltit Fort. but it’s crucial to explore and expose some of the marvelous places that remain hidden from tourists. Traveling from Hunza Karimabad to Attabad Lake requires passing through five tunnels. The secret is hidden in between the second and third tunnels, there’s a beautiful meadow on the hilltop, called Baskochi Meadows.

Just an hour’s trek away, you’ll find fresh mountain air, lush greenery, and ample mountain views. The meadows offer stunning panoramic views, perfectly capturing Attabad Lake and the surrounding peaks, including the Pasu cones. This trek isn’t overly crowded, making it ideal for enjoying peace and solitude. Location & How to Reach Baskochi

Baskochi Meadows is located in the Hunza-Nagar region of Gilgit-Baltistan, above Attabad Lake and near Shishkat village. If you are planning to visit Hunza, you will need to leave your destination and the trek begins at a parking area near Tunnel 2 or Tunnel 3, where locals can easily point you to the trail. If you use GPS, the approximate coordinates are: 36.31119° N, 74.86537° E. It is safer to walk with a local guide, as some parts of the trail are narrow and rocky.

Baskochi Trek Details (Distance, Duration & Difficulty

The Baskochi Meadows trek has a round-trip distance of approximately 3 km and a duration of 45 minutes to 1 hour, depending on the pace. The trail is mostly uphill and of easy to moderate difficulty. Tickets are available. There will be ticket booths along the way, with tickets costing around five hundred rupees. Water for foreigners can be found here. Fill bottles and start trekking. Beginners and intermediate hikers can easily manage. During the trek, you’ll encounter open grazing lands, alpine meadows, and small streams, making the trek experience even more scenic. Wildflowers also bloom here in the summer, making the trail even more colorful and photogenic.
