Thalay Broq: Nature’s Hidden Paradise in Ghanche
Introduction
I have traveled to Thalay Broq with some of my friends, and this place was a wonderful experience for me. This trekking spot is a place where I relaxed and felt fresh.

This small meadow located in a remote area of Gangche district of Gilgit-Baltistan takes you away from the noise. When I went there, my aim was only trekking, but I got such moments there which I can never forget. crossing Thalay la we can reach Arindo village (shigar).
Journey started from Thalay
My journey towards Thalay broq started from the market in Skardu, in 4, 5 hours of drive we reached thalay valley, the people there were very friendly and kind hearted. With their help I walked on the road that goes to Thalay Brok. The road till Khaplu centre was very good but from there onwards half of the road is raw, during the journey greenery was spread on the roadside and small shops were open, passing through the wooden suspension bridge present between these villages is a unique experience.
We took a short break at Khaplu bazaar and refreshed ourselves and then started following the Thalay valley. Till here the jeeps normally reach. We had to trek further to reach Thalay broq. Climbing above the Thalay valley, we got away from all the noise and troubles of life. Time started to pass slowly and all the problems were left behind.
Green and beautiful mountains
After trekking for about 3 to 5 hours, we finally reached the open meadows which we call Thalay Broq. There were expanses of green grass all around and the sky was absolutely clear. Seeing the snowy mountains all around, it felt as if they were protecting this place.

The cold wind was blowing, but there was a strange happiness which was staying in the heart with every breath. The fragrance of flowers was in the air, and that silence, which was limitless, was giving immense peace to the heart.
Meeting with the mountain life
Some shepherd families also live there who come there with their animals in the summer days. Their small stone houses, the food built on the wooden fire, and their hard work seemed to me an example of truth and simplicity. An old man offered me tea and told me about his life’s journey, how he fights the cold and the rains, and maintains his friendship with the mountains.
Peace
The special thing was that after coming Thalay broq my heart and mind relaxed. There was no mobile signal, no TV or phone noise. I was just enjoying the beauty around me. I took some deep breaths, made tea with my own hands and enjoyed a lot. This journey was not just trekking, but a treat for us which gave peace to our hearts.
When and how did we go
I went Thalay broq in July, and the weather was very nice. It was cold at night, but sitting near the fire and counting the days was a different kind of fun. There are no hotels or restaurants in Thalay broq , so we have to carry our own stuff, and we have to take full care of cleanliness. Sing songs, make videos and take lots of pictures too.
A journey that will never be forgotten
It was not easy to leave the amazing Thalay broq and return. I felt like I should stay there more and think about those mountains and give more time to nature but I wish I had that much more time. Even today when I remember the silence, the cold of the mountains and the faces of those people, there is a peace in the heart.
And if you are also thinking of going to such a place, then you can plan with Skardu Trekkers and feel the real beauty and peace of the place. We don’t just show you the path but also take you to those moments that you remember throughout your life.
