Sheosar Lake Deosai – How to Reach & Camp Guide

Sheosar Lake is one of those places that quietly captures hearts. If you happen to spot a lake amidst the Deosai Range, known as the roof of the world, this lake truly feels like a piece of the sky descending to the earth. The first time I saw Sheosar, I was speechless for a few moments. The clear blue water, the open sky, and the cool breeze—everything was so soothing that words fell short. At an altitude of over 4,100 meters, this lake is one of Pakistan’s highest lakes and one of the most beautiful places in Gilgit-Baltistan. Coming here feels as if time has stopped. Perhaps heaven would be the name for such a place.

Camping in Sheosar – A Memorable Night

Camping at Sheosar Lake is an experience that will last a lifetime. In the evening, we set up tents near the lake. The sun was slowly setting behind the plains and the temperature was dropping rapidly, but the view made us forget all the cold.

The sky turned orange, then purple, and then a deep blue—and then only stars. There was no city light, no noise—only silence and quiet. Sitting around a small fire, drinking tea, and listening to the wind felt like a dream, accompanied by Nusrat Saab‘s ghazals.

At night, the lake absorbed the reflection of the stars, as if the sky had descended to earth. It felt as if we had landed in some dreamland. In the morning, when the first light fell on the water, the entire scene turned golden. The cool breeze, hot tea, and that view—all combine to soothe the soul.

HOW TO REACH SHEOSAR LAKE

Sheosar Lake is usually reached from Skardu via Deosai National Park. The distance from Skardu to Sheosar is approximately 35–40 km, but due to the rough and unpaved road, the journey can take 3 to 4 hours.

recommended vehicles

A 4×4 vehicle is essential. The route is quite steep and passes through open meadows, flowing streams, and wide plains. The road is open from late June to early September, but the weather can change quickly. Sometimes strong winds, sometimes rain—that’s why it’s best to travel with an experienced guide.

The road is a bit difficult, but the views you encounter every morning make this journey an adventure.
