Rupal Basecamp trek – The Trail That Touched My Heart

Introduction

I have a passion for trekking since childhood, but the journey to Rupal Basecamp was something different. When I first thought of walking in the shadow of Nanga Parbat, there was a strange hope and a little fear in my heart.

This was my first experience where it was not just trekking, but a journey to meet my own self.

This is the story of that day, when I left my comfort zone, found myself in the midst of raw nature, and understood some new things in the silence of Rupal.

Tarashing – Where the world slowly disappears

The journey started with tarashing. A small village in Astore, where everything is so raw and open that at first glance it seems that this is a different world.

People of the village meet each other with a smile. They don’t have much, but whatever they have, there is peace in it – and that peace goes with them throughout the journey.

Starting of trek

When the trek started, for the first few moments everything felt exciting. Cold breeze, fresh greenery, and the river of glacier flowing behind – a perfect setup.

But as we went higher, the trail started becoming a little demanding.

There came a time when I was asking myself why I had come out leaving all this behind.

But then, at a turn, when I got the first glimpse of Rupal Face, I just fell silent.

This was no ordinary mountaineer – this was a devar, like a mohtarma who could be seen from a distance, but could not be understood.

Basecamp – where the night feels like the breath of Nanga Parbat

By the time I reached basecamp the sun was rising. I set up camp – in front was Rupal Face, below was the white spread of glacier, and above was a blue sky which was slowly spreading.

That night taught me nothing – I just silently went inside.

Throughout the night there was only one sound – of glacier or of breath – I don’t know.

I just sat, kept looking at Rupal, and kept feeling that I am alive.

Morning – the color of hope on the mountains

When the first ray of the morning sun fell on Rupal’s face, every layer of that white wall turned golden.

The feeling that that moment made me feel – it cannot be expressed in words.

I can only say this much: whoever has spent a night under Rupal, his relationship with life changes.

Why should I go to Rupal Basecamp?

If your heart has the desire to leave the real things, if you want to understand yourself a little better – then definitely go to Rupal once.

This trek is not an Instagram reel – it is a romantic journey where you are accompanied only by you… and a silent, dense mountain that says everything without saying a word.
