Marsur Rock in Skardu – The Ultimate Adventure Spot You Must Visit
Not every beautiful place is famous. Some places are hidden in the mountains, where only those people reach who want to be away from noise and want a little peaceful air. Marsur Rock is one such place.
This rock is located at a high point above Hussainabad village of Skardu. It looks like Trolltunga in Norway. There is no crowd there, no shops, no tourist boards. Just a big rock from where you can see the entire Skardu valley – just like a mountain. If you want to see the whole of Skardu in one glance, then this is the only place from where you can see Skardu city, the wide cold desert and the mountains all around.
When I went Marsur Rock for the first time
A friend had said, “If you want to see the real panoramic view of Skardu, then go to Marsur Rock.” I was curious. One day I went out in the afternoon with a small bottle and a camera. We are not the same as the mazes of Skardu people, right?
The trail is not too tough, but there is a light climb and some loose stones. There was only wind on the way, some bushes and sometimes the sound of a goat. After a 10-15 minute hike, I reached the top of the rock.
After reaching there, I just kept quiet. I did not feel like talking. Just watching. From there, I took some pictures and recorded a video.
View that stays in the heart
When you look down from Marsur Rock, Skardu city, Sarfaranga cold desert, and the Karakoram mountains below – all come together in one frame. It seems as if the whole world is below and you are standing somewhere near the sky.
This view is not just a trekking side or just a rock. You get time with yourself by going there. There is no rush, no sound, just wind, view and silence.
Why should one go to Marsur Rock?
Nowadays every place has become touristy – selfie points, stalls or crowds. But Marsur Rock is still untouched. There is no decoration, no bench. Just nature and you.

This is a perfect spot for photography as well. During the golden hour the view becomes even more magical. If you can take a drone, the drone shots are insane! This is the best place for cinematic shots.

- Go with a local friend or guide if you don’t have any idea of a trail.
- Wear comfortable shoes, the saddle is light but it is rock hard.
- Take a water bottle and some snacks with you.
- Best time: Morning or evening, preferably near sunset.
If you are not a regular trekker, then also don’t worry. Almost everyone can do this hike easily. All you need is patience and love.
