Hussaini Suspension Bridge – The Most Dangerous Bridge in Hunza?
If you go for a trip on the Hunza, you must have heard the name of Hussaini Suspension Bridge which is Pakistan’s most dangerous rope bridge. It was first built in 1968 by the locals to cross the river. When I went on a trip to Hunza, I was in a hurry to see the Hussaini Suspension Bridge. Even after seeing the photos and videos, when I stood in front of that bridge, the real experience was completely different – more thrilling, more real and really dangerous. But if you see the water flowing and go ahead without seeing the water then it is not that dangerous otherwise you may get dizzy. If you are also going to Hunza then do not miss it.

How to reach Hussaini Suspension Bridge?
This bridge is in Hussaini village, which is a part of Gojal Valley, Upper Hunza. We left from Aliabad in a car and followed Karakoram Highway. It was a journey of approximately 1.5 hours. A small signboard told us that there is a track on the left side from where one can go to the bridge. Tickets are available for the bridge. After a 10-15 minute walk, we reached the starting point of the bridge. And there is a zip line along the bridge.
First Look
The bridge was crossing the Neela Hunza River – held by steel cables, with thin wooden planks in between. Strong water was flowing underneath, and the bridge was swaying slightly in the breeze. Seeing this scene, I felt a little scared, but at the same time I also felt excited. If you feel dizzy, then be careful,
When I walked on it
When it was my turn, I was excited to cross it. I was also feeling scared because the bridge was swinging. There was a little hesitation due to the wind. Only the sound of the wind and the gurgling of the water flowing below could be heard, but I did not see the water flowing below and I grabbed my robe and crossed the bridge.
Local People and its Story
I talked to a local uncle, he told me that this bridge was built in 1960s when the old bridge was destroyed in a flood. Since then people use it daily – whether it is a need or to go to harvest crops. For them this bridge is a normal road, but for visitors like us it is an adventure. And for the money of tickets local people work on its maintenance which is a good thing.

Is it really dangerous?
People say that this is one of the most dangerous bridges in the world. I thought that if you drive carefully, then there will be no problem. The bridge is strong, locals maintain it. If you are afraid of heights, it can be a little tough.
When should I go?
I went in the beginning of July, when the weather was absolutely perfect. It is best to go between April to October. In winter, walking on the bridge becomes risky due to snow and wind.
