Snow Lake Trek also known as Biafo Hispar La Trek, is one of the most remote and pure nature adventures in the world and is the ultimate challenge for people who are keen for a real adventure.

Itinerary

Arrival at Islamabad International Airport, our representative will escort you to a hotel in Islamabad. If you want to explore Islamabad after having some rest our team member will take you for short tour of Islamabad city. In the evening, attend a briefing session about the trek and enjoy a welcome dinner.
Accommodation: Hotel in Islamabad.

On day 2 we will move towards Islamabad Intl Airport and move fly towards Skardu Intl Airport. During the flight you can enjoy the breathtaking views of Nanga Parbat, Karakoram, Himaliyas and Hindukush Range.
Accommodation: Hotel in Skardu.

After breakfast, we will go on an acclimatization hike to the kharpocho and old castle some hundred meters hike from Skardu Bazars. The fort provides a breathtaking view of the Indus river, Skardu, and its Surroundings.
Company will provide drone to make a memorable footage.
While the afternoon you can check out your trekking kit or need to buy something you can go to Bazar for shopping or sightseeing. For this trek crampons is a must so you need to arrange one from Skardu, you can ask us for arrangement if you do not have one. During the whole activity, our guide will facilitate you.

On Day 4 will drive to Askoli with our crew and supplies. It's a 5-7-hour jeep drive from Skardu to Askoli. After half hour drive from Skardu, we will reach the Shigar valley which hosts the second-highest peak on the planet. The narrow track will lead us to Aksoli driving along to the Braldu River. Our porters will join us from Askoli. This is the last village before Snow Lake Hispar La trek. We will arrive at Askole in the late afternoon and camp out on the grounds of a simple lodge.

On day 5 of Snow Lake Hispar La trek, we will start our trekking from Askoli to the grassy camping site called Namla is located behind a lateral moraine. The trail starts by following the K2 Base Camp trail and then turns west onto the Biafo Glacier, passing through lush green fields and rocky terrains. It's a 6-7-hours trek.

• Details: Approximately 6-7 hours of trekking.

On this day of Snow Lake Hispar La trek, we will continue trekking to the centre of the glacier where we follow moraine ridges, underfoot there is loose rock. Navigate the challenging glacial terrain and enjoy views of surrounding peaks. We’ll set up camp on the left bank of the Biafo in a grassy area.
• Accommodation: Camp at Mango.
• Details: Approximately 6-7 hours of trekking

After early wake up and getting breakfast we will start our trek to Trek to Baintha camp, a beautiful campsite with panoramic views of the Karakoram Range. The path includes glacier walks and moraines making the walking easier than yesterday. .

• Details: Approximately 5-6 hours of trekking.

This is a rest and acclimatization day of Snow Lake Hispar La trek to adjust to the altitude. Whether you choose to explore the area, take short hikes, or simply relax. Be on the lookout for Ibex, which are frequently spotted on the grassy slopes above.
• Accommodation: Camp at Baintha.

On this day of Snow Lake Hispar La trek, we’ll start trekking from Baintha to Marfogoro. The trail is steep and loose as we approach the glacier; however, once there, we enjoy the stunning ice formations and serene environment of the central glacier area, there are some crevasses to be mindful of, and depending on the conditions, we might rope up to ensure our safety. There are superb views of many peaks, including The Ogre (7,813m), and we will also get our first views of the Hispar La and Snow Lake.
• Accommodation: Camp at Marfogoro.

This is a very special day of Snow Lake Hispar La trek, we’ll start our walk towards the south end of a large snowy flat area known as Snow Lake, a high-altitude glacial basin over 16km wide at the head of the Biafo and Hispar glacier surrounded by towering peaks. The landscape is breathtaking and unique.
• Accommodation: Camp at Snow Lake.
• Details: Approximately 5-6 hours of trekking.

On this day, we climb towards the vast Snow Lake area, then approach the base camp of Hispar La. The journey begins with a steady climb to the Hispar La pass, where the altitude and terrain present a challenging yet rewarding experience. As we reach the summit, we'll be treated to breathtaking views of the surrounding peaks, including the majestic Ogre and the expansive Biafo Glacier stretching towards Snow Lake. On the other side, the descent along the Hispar Glacier reveals a captivating array of peaks stretching into Hunza.

• Details: Approximately 5-6 hours of trekking.

On this day of of Snow Lake Hispar La trek, Cross the Hispar La Pass (5151m) and descend to Kani Basa. The path requires careful navigation due to potential crevasses, but the captivating scenery of peaks and glaciers makes the effort worthwhile. As we make our way down, the landscape transitions, revealing the diverse beauty of a grassy ablation valley until we finally arrive to our capms at Kani Basa with good views of Kanjut Sar.

• Details: Approximately 7-8 hours of trekking.

Today, we need to be prepared for a challenging day as we navigate through a series of moraine ridges, climb a tricky scree slope, and cross multiple glacial streams. Our journey concludes at Jutmal camp, ideally situated on a grassy area beside the glacier, providing a well-earned rest in the tough terrain.
• Accommodation: Jutmal Camp.
• Details: Approximately 6-7 hours of trekking.

On this day of of Snow Lake Hispar La trek, we will resume our trek to bitanmal. After an hour, we descend a steep slope to cross a side glacier, then return to the valley where the path improves. The camp at Bitanmal is set in a spacious meadows and streams often used by herders from Hispar village.

On this day of Snow Lake Hispar La trek, we navigate the final side glacier crossing over the Kunyang Glacier, then ascend a steep trail. After climbing, we ford a stream to arrive at the picturesque meadows of Falaling Chhish.

• Details: Approximately 4-5 hours of trekking.

Today marks the final leg of our Snow Lake Hispar La trek as we journey to Hispar Village. We begin with a descent along well-trodden paths, gradually leaving the high alpine terrain behind. The trail leads us through scenic valleys, past vibrant meadows, and alongside glacial streams.
As we approach Hispar Village, the landscape transforms into lush greenery, with terraced fields and orchards. The village, nestled in a picturesque setting, offers a glimpse into the traditional lifestyle of the local people. We will set up camp nearby, enjoying the serene surroundings and reflecting on the incredible journey we've completed.
Depending on the road's condition, we may find our jeeps in the village; if the road is rough, we'll have a bit more walking before a short drive to our final camp.

On the 17th day of our Snow Lake Hispar La trek, we conclude our exhilarating adventure with a scenic drive to Nagar village via a narrow path before joining the Karakoram Highway. Driving along the highway, we arrive at Karimabad where we settle into a hotel. The remainder of the day is yours to freshen up, unwind, and discover the charms of the town
Accommodation: Hotel in Hunza.

This day is allocated for any potential delays during the trek. We do not want our guests to miss their domestic flights due to unforeseen delays, which can be caused by factors such as roadblocks. If no delays occur, this time can be utilized for sightseeing and shopping in Hunza. We immerse ourselves in the warm hospitality of the locals, savoring Hunza's renowned cuisine and exploring its vibrant bazaars filled with handicrafts and local specialties.
In the evening we drive to Gilgit, the administrative center of Gilgit-Baltistan. Enjoy scenic views along the Hunza River. (If you want to come back to skardu in case you kept any of your valuables here we’ll move towards skardu)

Today we will fly back to the capital city of Pakistan Islamabad. You will have a good time to relax at the hotel in Islamabad. In case of flight cancellation or if you wish to, we will drive towards Islamabad. It takes eight hours by a vehicle.

This is the last day of Snow Lake Hispar La trek; our staff will transfer the trek participants to Islamabad International airport. You can choose to stay in Islamabad if you are not flying home right away, though any additional nights at the hotels are not covered.

What kind of visa is needed for the Snow Lake Biafo Hispar La Trek?

All guests joining the Snow Lake Biafo Hispar La Trek must apply for a Pakistani Trekking and Mountaineering Visa. This visa is different from the standard tourist visa, so you will not be applying for a tourist visa.

Skardu Trekkers provides all the necessary documentation for the visa application, including the Letter of Invitation (LOI).

Do I need to have trekking experience for the Snow Lake Biafo Hispar La Trek?

No, you do not need extensive climbing equipment for this trek. No ice tools are used, and no technical trekking experience is necessary.

This trek is considered little challenging and requires a good level of physical fitness and familiarity with trekking in high-altitude environments.

Is it safe for a Solo Woman to join the Snow Lake Biafo Hispar La Trek?

Roughly 50% of our clients on the K2 Base Camp Trek are female, hailing primarily from the USA, the UK, Europe, Australia, and New Zealand. Over the years, we have had solo women from more than 20 different nationalities join us on this trek.

You will always be paired with another solo woman as hotel/tent mates. If there is no other female to pair you with due to odd numbers, you will not be required to share a tent.
