Overview
Explore the awe-inspiring Rupal Peak, nestled in the southern expanse of the Rupal Valley, renowned for its towering Nanga Parbat’s colossal southern face, the highest in the world spanning over four vertical kilometers. Standing between 5,584m and 5,642m (depending on the map), Rupal Peak offers a moderate climb ideal for those seeking an introduction to Himalayan mountaineering in Pakistan. The ascent primarily involves navigating snow slopes with occasional easy ice sections, making it accessible compared to other peaks in the region.
Located in the far western reaches of the Himalayas in Northern Pakistan, Rupal Peak first witnessed conquest in 1964 and has since attracted climbers globally. The Western route remains popular for its minimal objective hazards and straightforward W13 sections, ensuring a manageable ascent.
Notably, the legendary climber Doug Scott added to Rupal Peak’s lore with his expedition via the western side in 1986, accompanied by Alistair Reid, Michael Scott, and David Marshall. Their route involved three bivouacs, with options to summit directly via the north face or NW couloir.
