Overview
Pastore Peak, also known as Pastori Peak, is a striking mountain located in the Karakoram Range, near the legendary K2 and Broad Peak. This peak is part of the Baltoro Muztagh subrange in the Gilgit-Baltistan region of Pakistan and offers trekkers a unique opportunity to experience the raw beauty and challenging terrain of the Karakoram. The journey typically begins in Islamabad, where trekkers are welcomed and briefed on the expedition. From Islamabad, a scenic flight to Skardu provides the first glimpses of the towering peaks of the Karakoram, including Nanga Parbat and K2.
Skardu, known as the gateway to the Karakoram, serves as the starting point for this adventure. After a day of rest and final preparations in Skardu, the trek commences with a drive to Askoli, the last inhabited village before entering the wilderness of the Karakoram. The journey from Askoli to Concordia, often called the “Throne Room of the Mountain Gods,” takes trekkers through the Braldu Gorge and along the Baltoro Glacier. Concordia offers unparalleled views of some of the world’s highest peaks, including K2, Broad Peak, and the Gasherbrum group.
From Concordia, a day hike leads to the base camp of Pastore Peak. The climb itself is a challenging yet rewarding experience, typically taking 3-4 days to complete. After summiting Pastore Peak, trekkers have the option to visit nearby iconic locations such as the K2 Base Camp and Broad Peak Base Camp. The adventure continues with a trek to Ali Camp, where preparations are made for crossing the Gondogoro La Pass, a high-altitude pass requiring technical climbing skills and equipment. The descent from Gondogoro La brings trekkers into the picturesque Hushe Valley, where they are welcomed by the warm hospitality of the local Balti people.
The journey concludes with a return to Skardu, where trekkers can relax and reflect on their adventure before flying back to Islamabad. This expedition, blending the thrill of climbing with the awe-inspiring beauty of the Karakoram, is an unforgettable experience for trekkers starting from Skardu, offering both a physical challenge and a deep connection with one of the most remote and spectacular regions in the world.
