Overview

Pastore Peak, sometimes referred to as Pastori Peak, is a prominent mountain located in the Karakoram Range of Pakistan. It stands among the majestic peaks of the Baltoro Muztagh subrange, which is part of the larger Karakoram Mountains. This stunning peak is positioned near renowned giants like K2 and Broad Peak and is a part of the Gilgit-Baltistan region in northern Pakistan.

The allure of Pastore Peak lies in its breathtaking climbing routes that provide awe-inspiring views of nearby K2, Broad Peak, Gasherbrum, and the expansive Baltoro Glacier. The peak is accessible via a day hike from Concordia, a celebrated trekking and mountaineering hub within the Karakoram. Often dubbed the “Throne Room of the Mountain Gods,” Concordia offers unparalleled vistas of several of the world’s highest peaks, including K2 and Broad Peak. As a result, Pastore Peak has become a popular choice for mountaineers looking to prepare for more challenging climbs.

Skardu Trekkers, a well-regarded expedition operator, has been organizing treks to Pastore Peak. Their 24-day Pastore Peak and Gondogoro La trek is designed to ensure safety, proper acclimatization, and an enjoyable experience. The duration of the trek can be adjusted based on the participant’s experience, skill level, and schedule.

The journey to Pastore Peak begins in Islamabad, Pakistan’s purpose-built capital city and the nearest international airport to the Karakoram Mountains. Upon arrival, travelers are greeted and transferred to a group hotel for rest and a trek briefing. The next day, participants embark on a scenic flight to Skardu, the capital of Baltistan, where they will enjoy stunning views of Nanga Parbat, K2, and other notable peaks. After arriving in Skardu and settling into a hotel, trekkers have time to rest and prepare for the adventure ahead.

The trek commences with a drive along the Indus River, through Shigar and the Braldu Valley, leading to Askoli, the last village before entering the central Karakoram National Park wilderness. Here, campers spend their first night under the stars. The trek continues through Braldu Gorge to the snout of the Baltoro Glacier, which is followed to Concordia. Located at the confluence of the Baltoro and Godwin-Austen Glaciers, Concordia provides spectacular views of ten of the world’s thirty highest peaks, including K2, Broad Peak, and the Gasherbrum range.

From Concordia, trekkers embark on a day hike to the base camp of Pastore Peak. The climbing phase typically lasts 3-4 days, during which climbers tackle Pastore Peak. Afterward, the trek includes a journey across the Godwin-Austen Glacier, visiting Broad Peak, Milky Memorial, and K2 Base Camp before returning to Concordia for another overnight stay.
