Overview

The Cigarette Peak Expedition is an exhilarating mountaineering adventure that takes climbers into the heart of the Karakoram range in northern Pakistan. Cigarette Peak, often referred to as the Mini K2, is a renowned peak situated in the Masherbrum Range. Located in the Humbroq summer pastures, Cigarette Peak rises high above the Hushe River, to the west of Hushe village. This striking peak is a prominent feature in the Karakoram range, offering climbers a challenging and rewarding adventure. Standing at 7,500 meters, Cigarette Peak is renowned for its slender, cigarette-like profile and presents a formidable challenge for experienced mountaineers. The expedition begins with a scenic journey from Islamabad, traveling through picturesque landscapes to reach the base of the peak. This approach involves traversing rugged terrain, crossing glaciers, and passing through remote villages, offering climbers stunning views of the surrounding mountains.

At the base camp, climbers set up a well-equipped operational hub where they will prepare for the ascent, acclimatize to the high altitude, and finalize their climbing plans. This camp serves as the starting point for the technical climb of Cigarette Peak, which involves navigating mixed terrain, including rock faces, ice slopes, and snowfields. The climb is demanding and requires proficiency in both ice and rock climbing techniques, as well as the ability to handle high-altitude conditions.

Acclimatization is a key focus of the expedition, with several days spent at the base camp and intermediate camps to adjust to the altitude and minimize the risk of altitude sickness. The expedition is meticulously planned to ensure safety, with expert guides and support staff available to assist and monitor conditions throughout the climb.

Throughout the journey, climbers are treated to breathtaking views of the Karakoram range, including panoramic vistas of some of the world’s highest peaks. The rugged beauty of the glaciers, deep valleys, and dramatic rock formations enhances the overall experience, making the expedition a memorable adventure.

After a successful climb, the descent retraces the journey back through the mountainous terrain, offering a chance to reflect on the expedition and appreciate the landscapes from a different perspective. The adventure concludes with a return to Islamabad, where climbers can relax and explore the city before heading home. Organized by experienced mountaineering teams, including Skardu Trekkers, the Cigarette Peak Expedition provides comprehensive support to ensure a well-organized and successful adventure.
