This time Shandur Polo Festival 2025 is scheduled from 20th to 22nd June. Earlier this event used to be held in July, but this year the date has been advanced due to the arrival of Muharram – so that religious respect is maintained and the fun of the festival is not lost.
Why is Shandur festival so special?

A little history too…
The story of Shandur Polo Festival starts in the 1930s. From then to today, this friendly rivalry has been going on between Gilgit and Chitral. In 1982 it was given the status of an official festival, and since then it is becoming more popular every year.
Fun fact? Chitral has won 16 times, Gilgit-Baltistan 13, and Shahzada Sikandar Ul Mulk has been the legendary captain of Chitral.
